Hunting… or a weekend alone

11.05.2012

This past weekend Shawn and I went up to Show Low.  We left Thursday night and headed home Sunday afternoon.  It was such a great weekend!  Even though Shawn was unsuccessful filling his buck tag, we had fun and I’m glad I was able to experience it with him.  I want to try to like his hobbies hoping it will make us even closer.   I didn’t have to try too hard.  I actually really enjoyed it.  Within the first 10 minutes of hiking we saw a herd of elk running past.  We also saw several herds of doe, no buck!  Before this weekend I had never seen an animal in the wild for the exception of the side of road driving by.  We were down by a stream and sure enough about 20 yards in front of us stood a beautiful doe.  She just stared in our direction for what seemed to be minutes before scurrying off up the hill.  Being out in the wilderness and seeing these animals in their own habitat was worth getting up really early and sitting and sitting and sitting some more in 20 degree weather.  I felt so at peace being in the woods and all the stresses in life went away.

Back to beginning of the trip…

Shawn got pulled over:/  The DPS officer actually ended up being really nice. Hence the warning.  We talked briefly about hunting, the size of Shawn’s tires, and our girls.  Interesting to say the least.  Fortunately Shawn got lucky and we headed on our way.

For lunch on Friday we headed to one of our faves… Moose Henri.  The food is okay but the beer is great.  I started with the usual… a flight.  Can not get enough of them.  I love trying different brews.  We had never gone to Moose Henri’s on a weekday but it seemed there were a lot more locals than visitors.  We even had a few furry guests with us.

We love the laid back-ness of this town.  Its right up our alley.

When we weren’t hunting we hung out around the house doing nothing.  Not much better than that!

It got a little chilly towards the evening.

Brewed at 7000

Sunday was the grand opening of Pinetop Brewing Co.  We decided to stop by because we were already there.  Its hard to judge a new place the first official day of business. However I believe first impressions are really important and you (I would try to be) prepared to serve guests.  I was a little disappointed there were five brews to choose from but they were out of two.  Apparently he had a pre-opening night on Friday for local judges, police, and “people you want to be nice to” says the owner and tapped out of a few.  Shawn and I are very big on customer service so we have high expectations for companies.  Nonetheless the people were great.  It’s a small place but very cozy.  In the back up the stairs is a pool table and down below was the brutal Cardinals game.  Being so new I could smell the overwhelming scent of fresh pine wood.  It was amazing!!! Loved it!  We bought our first growler and are excited to return soon.

Sunrise Ale seemed to be the most popular and naturally the one I wanted and were out of.

Its 9.5% ABV.  WOW!!

Shawn elected for the covert and I got Engine No. 36. Loved the hint of caramel flavor.

Really Good!!

We LOVED the logo.  Resembles the Arizona flag with a Pinetop spin.  At least that’s what it reminded us of.

It was bitter sweet to leave.  We were anxious to get home and see our princesses.

Looks like you had a great time. We have been wanting to go to Greer. My husband was there a couple of years ago and fell in love with it.
